Stavroula, 43 years old, German teacher and leather designer, Thessaloniki

»I studied German language and interior design and worked in both areas.
I discovered during my studies that I have a passion for leather. I worked with it and started to make for example wallets, belts and bags.
From 2004 to 2012, I had a small shop for my leather products in the center of Thessaloniki, too. But since 2010 I was strongly affected by the crisis, I hardly made any profit and there was no more personal satisfaction in regard to my work.
In 2012 I worked only for the tax and health insurance, without any profit for myself and I was supported by my friend and my mother. Then, I closed the shop and worked again just as a German teacher, but I never lost my passion for leather.
Now I have found the opportunity to present my leather work in a gallery to the public. I don't have to pay any rent there and therefor I support the gallery owner. I can meet clients in the gallery and I'm happy about this and it is again another attempt to sell my leather products.
Early next year I want to make a trip to Germany and Denmark and see if there is any potential over there and if I am in its favour.
In my opinion the crisis will continue, unemployment is still rising, shops are shutting down or migrate to Bulgaria, where the taxes are lower, and our politicians are just comedians.
But I'm still going to vote because it's terrible that neo-fascist parties generate a lot of interest.
That bothers me, it's frustrating and scares me and this is the only reason for me to go to the polls.«
